Roosevelt Park Zoo Comeback | Video

Sarahbeth Ackerman | 9/27/2012

The gates at Roosevelt Park Zoo will be re-opened this coming spring and although the animals were scattered all over the country after last year`s flood, they are finally on their way home.

The zoo is still in the recovery phase, but they`ve recently welcomed back the petting zoo and the North American animals onto the park grounds.

Zookeepers are moving quickly to get a majority of their larger animals back before the colder weather sets in.

"The animals that are here right now gradually adjust as the temperatures cool just as we do to the colder weather but for the most part they do very well, a lot of them grow nice, full hair coats and that`s why we will be careful as it comes into winter we don`t want to bring anybody back that`s been in the southern part of the united states and we want them to be able to adjust," said zoo veterinarian Ann Olsen.

Olsen says the bears will be back home this winter and the larger cats will arrive early this spring.
