Fatal Crash Near Cando

| 9/25/2012

Two Belcourt residents are dead and another is injured after their car hit a semi trailer and went off of the road this morning 13 miles west of Cando. The car, driven by a 24 year old male, was travelling east on ND 17 when it failed to negotiate a curve and entered the other lane. A semi with an empty hay rack trailer, driven by Dana McIntyre, 41, from Westhope, had entered the highway from a field and was west bound.

McIntyre moved to the right to avoid the car which hit the rear tires of the trailer. The semi jack-knifed and both vehicles went into the ditch.

The driver of the car and a 19 year old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. A second 19 year old passenger in the car was taken to a Minot hospital.

McIntyre was not injured.

The names of the people in the car have not been released. The crash is under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
