Emergency Response Training | Video

Rene Thibault | 9/21/2012

Minot State University held an emergency response drill earlier today. The MSU Security Department teamed up with Minot PD to simulate a "shooter on campus" scenario held at Model Hall.

Around 1:15, Minot Police received the training call that a shooter was on campus. He had killed one student, shot two others and was holding a hostage. Minot Patrol officers responded in minutes, followed by members of SWAT and paramedics. Officers entered the building, swept through each floor, located the shooter and took him into custody. The “injured” students were looked after by medical personnel.

School administrators, students and law enforcement knew the importance of practicing for any scenario, “It`s great to be able to coordinate with them, but not only that, but to give students and faculty and administration on their part an understanding of what it is we`re going to do when we respond. Because sometimes it`s tough to understand that if they`ve never really been through it or educated about that, on what our main priority is at that point,” said Lieutenant Justin Dump of the Minot Police Department.

Minot State security is planning other emergency response drills for this school year.
