Alex Hagan | 9/21/2012

After three days, authorities say they have a wildfire on the Fort Berthold Reservation contained. The fire burned more than 9,000 acres in the badlands along the Little Missouri River. The tough terrain prevented firefighters from getting close to it.

Last night, they cut a dozer line around the fire and burned it out to prevent the fire from spreading. Several agencies cooperated. Firefighters say weather conditions played a huge role in the spread of the fire.

"With these kinds of conditions our field conditions are very dry," says Marle Baker of TAT Fire Management. "We have the high winds and a low relative humidities, wind rates have spread exponentially and consequently you can`t fight them directly you have to to indirect attack."

Oil and construction companies also helped out.
