Truck Traffic Taking a Toll on Roads | Video

Amy Fox | 9/21/2012

In a new study by the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institution, in the next 20 years, it will take up to seven billion dollars to keep up on North Dakota roadways. With more truck traffic throughout western counties, the Highway Department has to repair and patch asphalt and gravel roads more often.

As Ward County Engineer Dana Larsen explains, the money coming from gas tax and vehicle registration isn`t enough to cover the growing repair costs.

"We need to work together as counties, cities, townships, state, and even businesses that use them. So, it`s challenging, but we need to work together to try to do the best we can with what we have.”

Larsen says a road used to last 20 years, now, it only lasts 10.
