The fire originated several miles west of the Doyle Farm, but with strong winds, it was only a matter of minutes before the flames spread to the Doyle property.
By the time fire crews arrived on scene, the barn, wind tower, storage sheds and corrals were destroyed. According to Velva fireman John Swedlund, they were able to save one important building.
“Wind is really hard today, so it picked up a head of steam rolled across into this farmyard here. So you can see it burned up most of the outbuildings, except for one and the house. House is still standing”.
No one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The owner of the home claims utility crews working nearby accidentally started the fire.
