| 9/20/2012

A Missouri man was charged with two driving violations and fleeing police after he led police on a high-speed chase in Dickinson early this morning. At around midnight Thursday, police responded to a reckless driver southbound on Highway 85.

When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, it took off at a high speed. Police pursued the vehicle on Highway 85 and in I-94 at speeds over 100 miles per hour. At one point, police clocked the vehicle at 106 miles per hour. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

The vehicle got off of the interstate at mile marker 59. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and went into the ditch.

Police arrested the driver, identified as Anthony Lorenzo Smith Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri. Smith was taken to a hospital, where he was treated and released. He was charged with driving a motor vehicle while under suspension, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving.
