Buckle up for Safety | Video

In North Dakota, children 7 and younger are required by law to ride in a car seat or booster seat. Unfortunately, many of those seats are not being used correctly.

While parents are using car seats for their children, the seats are not being installed tight enough and are not locked into place. Which can cause the seat to move around while the vehicle is in motion.

By taking 15-20 minutes to do an at-home car seat check, you could save your child`s life.

"It`s just such a simple thing,” said First District Health Unit Injury Prevention Coordinator Bobbi Dickinson. "If something were to happen to your child, I mean that`s something you would have to live with forever. It`s just something so simple and once it`s in, you can forget about it. It`s just as easy as putting them in the seat and putting the seat belt on them once the seat`s been installed."

First District Health Unit offers free car seat checks by appointment.
