Fargo Businessman Announces Write-In Senate Campaign | Video

Jessica Roose | 9/5/2012

A retired Fargo businessman is hoping to be elected to the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kent Conrad. Bill Kiefer announced that he will be running a write-in campaign against Republican candidate Rick Berg and Democratic senate hopeful Heidi Heitkamp.

Kiefer says he is not happy with the way the country is heading and believes he can help fix problems with the economy and healthcare without being tied to special interest groups.

"I`m a one timer, that`s it. If I get elected, I have no desire to serve another six year term in the U.S. Senate. If I can`t get something done in six years then I shouldn`t probably even be there anymore."

He said if elected he will step down one day before the end of his term if he has an approval rating less than 50-percent. So he would not be eligable for retirement benefits.
