USDA Declares Drought Disaster in 16 Counties

The USDA has declared an agricultural drought disaster in parts of North Dakota. Producers and ranchers in 16 counties could now be eligible for supplemental disaster assistance and other federal programs.

"We expect the USDA to make farmers and ranchers in more counties eligible for disaster assistance and other programs if crop damages become even greater," Governor Jack Dalrymple and the state`s Congressional Delegation said in a joint statement. "We will continue working with the USDA to monitor crop losses and to help producers get the assistance they need."

The USDA has declared a disaster due to drought conditions that have damaged crops in: Barnes, Cass, Grand Forks, Griggs, Nelson, Steele and Trail counties. Federal assistance is also available to producers and ranchers in: Benson, Eddy, Foster, La Moure, Ramsey, Ransom, Richland, Stutsman and Walsh counties.
