Southwest ND Fire Update

| 8/29/2012

Firefighters continue to monitor wildfires in southwest North Dakota. According to the U.S. Forest Service, interior burning in the woody draws is continuing on the Deep Creek 2 fire, nine miles north of Marmarth. Fire crews, which include four engines and smoke jumpers are remaining on the 3,300 acre fire to make sure it stays within their fire line.

"We want to thank the many Rural Fire Departments and both State and Federal agencies for their assistance, we definitely need their support and help and without them we would not have made the progress on the fires like we did," said Maure Sand, Fire Management Officer for the US Forest Service, Dakota Prairie Grasslands.

With predicted triple digit temperatures and increased winds, personnel will continue to patrol for minor flare-ups.
