Body Identified as Fredericksen | Video

Alex Hagan | 8/28/2012

Bismarck police have identified the body recovered from the Missouri River Monday afternoon as that of Gregory Fredericksen, 27. Two and half weeks ago, Fredericksen jumped from the railroad bridge over the river. Dive teams spent the next five days searching for his body, but they were unsuccessful.

Police say it`s fortunate the body has finally emerged.

"It is very dangerous for anybody to go in the river, but it`s also dangerous even for trained rescuers to go in and dive. So my hats off to the law enforcement and all the agencies that responded. You know, they really did the best they could do for that family and that`s what it was about at that time, was trying to get that recovery for the family," said Deputy Chief Dan Donlin.

Police ask people to be careful out on the river because of the strong currents. They also stress that no one is allowed on the railroad bridge at any time.
