Fort Yates Man Pleads Guilty to Assault and Burglary

A Fort Yates man pleaded guilty in District Court today to burglary and assault charges. Lionel Jewett, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, a count of assault with intent to commit murder, and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

In March of last year, Jewett and another person broke into a garage that was owned by the Catholic church in Fort Yates and took a vehicle, tools and money. He also admitted to involvement in another burglary at the church in October or 2011.

Then in a separate incident on January 16, Jewett attacked two women in
the Fort Yates area, one of them was assaulted with a garden hoe and a fence post pounder.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 10.
