Although the oil boom is in western North Dakota, business in the Bismarck-Mandan area also on a steady increase. That`s why the Chamber of Commerce titled its annual award ceremony "Boom, Optimizing Our Opportunities." The chamber is encouraging businesses to take advantage of the unique time in the community.

More than 500 people gathered at the ceremony, where several awards were given for longstanding businesses that are engaged in the community. Heather Jones with City Air Mechanical won the state small business award, and says she loves working in the community.

"If you`re willing to ask for help, there`s so many people out there that are willing to help and lift you up and help you grow. It`s just been a great support structure. Not to mention the economic times right now. It`s just a really great place to be."
