The U.S. Forest Service has announced that the Plumely Draw fire is now controlled and closed sections of the Maah Daah Hey Trail have been re-opened. The service says that the fire, located about eight miles south of Medora, was classified as conrolled yesterday afternon, which means control lines are expected to hold based on foreseeable weather conditions. Crews will continue to monitor the fire until it is completely out.

The Hot Shot crew (pictured) was released from the fire and will return to their staging area in the Black Hills. They are the first Hot Shot crew to work on a wildfire in North Dakota.

Recreationists are asked to watch for changing trail surface or tree stumps along the trail. Campers are also asked to make sure all campfires are cold before leaving the area.

"We are in the middle of fire season and want to remind visitors to stay on the main routes and out of the tall grass where a vehicle could start grass fire," said Maure Sand, Fire Management Officer for the US Forest Service, Dakota Prairie Grasslands.
