Infant-Friendly Businesses | Video

Even though breastfeeding is good for the baby, it`s especially time consuming for moms who are juggling motherhood and work. But there are businesses that make it easier for working moms who are nursing.

The state has recognized 20 businesses in the state as being infant friendly. The distinction is given to businesses that set aside time for moms to breastfeed and give them a place to temporarily store breast milk. Infant-friendly businesses also provide a private location, other than a bathroom, for a mom to breastfeed near a sink.

Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is one of the businesses that`s been recognized with this distinction.

"Women will be more productive because they`re grateful to be able to do that. They`re happier employees at work cause they`re still doing something to take care of their baby, too. Their baby will be healthier, so they`ll have less missed time from work," said Connie Schwartz, RN with Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health.

The state says that employers who have adopted breastfeeding policies end up saving money because breast fed babies are generally healthier, which means that moms don`t have to take off as many days to care for the baby.
