Annual Farmers Market Day Next Week

Next week, people will be able to buy vegetables, baked goods and more during North Dakota Farmers Market Day at the Capitol. The eighth annual event will take place on Tuesday, August 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the top of the Capitol loop on the south lawn.

"There`s no better way to celebrate National Farmers Market Week than to buy fresh-picked, North Dakota fruit and vegetables, meet the growers and get recipes and tips on buying produce," said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.

The event will include 15 vendors and activities including:
- The Capitol Café and Fireflour Pizza will sell lunches featuring locally-produced foods.
- The 188th Army Band Jazz Combo will provide live music from noon to 1:00 p.m..
- 2012 North Dakota Dairy Princess Marissa Leier will serve free ice cream samples from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., at the mobile food processing unit.

The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, Going Local North Dakota, the Council of State Employees and the North Dakota Farmers Market and Growers Association.
