Tomorrow, florist Tammy Krein will be delivering flowers to people at Ruth Meiers Hospitality House and Triumph Hospital in Mandan. Krein says she does it because she likes to give people something to smile about.
There`s something about a bright arrangement of daisies that can`t help but put a smile on the faces of its unsuspecting recipients. For six years, Krein has participated in Make Someone Smile Week, organized by floral company Teleflora.
Come Thursday, Krein will be delivering 84 bouquets to some deserving folks.
"It`s probably some of the people who need a smile more. The homeless people having a tough time so it`s always good to put a smile on their face."
Krein`s been working at Ken`s Flower Shop for 21 years, and says it`s not often that customers request that flowers be sent to Ruth Meiers or Triumph Hospital in Mandan.
"It`s nice to give back. I like putting a smile on someone`s face and if you have that opportunity, why not?"
Krein can still remember the faces of some of the people she`s given flowers to over the years, just because.
"Smile. I`ve seen them cry. `Thank you for thinking of us. Nobody`s ever done this.` It`s heart-wrenching at times."
As she prepares to make strangers smile once again, she`s reminded of all the things she has to smile about.
Nationwide, 30,000 bouquets of flowers are being delivered this week during Teleflora`s Make Someone Smile Week.
