Game and Fish to Hold Second Deer Lottery | Video

Joel Porter | 7/22/2012

Around 32,000 people were unsuccessful after the first deer gun lottery in North Dakota. On Monday, those hunters will have another chance to draw a tag in the second lottery.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department will be issuing 5,800 doe licenses. Those tags are valid in 13 units around the state.

Game and Fish staff say they`re unsure how many people will apply a second time following a poor season last November. They say only about half of the population was successful in 2011.

"We don`t know if people are going to have that interest. Or going to have enough interest to go to a different unit just to secure a deer license. And if they do so, they`re still going to have some competition in that," said Assistant Wildlife Chief Jeb Williams.

Game and Fish staff say only hunters who were unsuccessful in the first drawing are eligible to apply for the second lottery.
