More People Taking the Bus in Bismarck

| 7/16/2012

Bismarck/Mandan`s bus service, Capital Area Transit (CAT), is reporting record ridership for the first part of 2012. Ridership from January to June 2012 was 73,835, an increase of over 11,000 from the same time last year. It is also the highest January-June ridership since the service started in 2004.

CAT credits the increase in numbers to population increases, the addition of a travel training program and a rise in awareness of their service.

"There`s been an increase in the number of people who call us to help them with figuring out a CAT Bus route and we`ve also seen more requests with our online trip planner," said Robin Werre, Transit Director. "Riders tell us they are new to the area and are appreciative of the bus service. The ridership increase is exciting and we are hoping that more Bismarck and Mandan residents explore the option of using the bus to alleviate traffic concerns in the communities."

CAT operates Monday-Saturday. Fares are $1.25 for adults and $.50 for students K-12, persons with disabilities, seniors age 60 and older and Medicare cardholders who provide proper verification.
