DSU Remains Accredited, Put On Notice
DSU News Release | 7/13/2012"On July 11, the Board of Trustees of the Higher Learning Commission reviewed the findings of the advisory visit to DSU earlier this spring and the recommendations that commission president Dr. Sylvia Manning made to the Board," said DSU President Dr. D.C. Coston. "Yesterday afternoon, I received by email the letter and Public Disclosure Notice detailing the Board`s action. The Board has placed Dickinson State on Notice, and accreditation sanction effective as of the Board action taken on July 11, 2012."
Next February, DSU has to provide a report to the Commission describing steps taken to address the concerns that were found during the Advisory Visit. The Commission will send a Focused Visit Team to DSU to assure compliance with accreditation requirements in May of 2013. The Commission will review that report and make recommendations to the Board.
The Board will review everything and determine if they need to take further action in November 2013.
DSU says they have been taking steps to address the situations and issues addressed.
The Commission`s letter recognizes those steps, and lays out their expectations for DSU.
"We have commitments: to provide a high quality education for our students; to be accountable to our numerous stakeholders including the citizens who support us, the Legislative Assembly and other leaders who represent the citizens, and our alumni and friends; and to accomplish all that we do to the highest standards. Additionally, we have commitments to work together and to support each other, and each of us must account to her/himself personally," said Coston.
