Child Pornography Investigation | Video

Jenny Castro | 7/12/2012

A child pornography case in Minot this week led to the arrest of Eric Lommen, 25. Now, Lommen is being charged with a Class C felony and faces up to five years in prison. The investigation was handled by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) and the Minot Police Department.

The North Dakota BCI monitors this type of online activity in the state. Working with the Minot PD, a search warrant verified that several hundred images of child pornography had been downloaded. In this case, the North Dakota BCI was able to track the child pornography being downloaded by a resident in Minot and the following search identified the exact resident.

"They`re able to find out what internet service provider that IP address is assigned to and then from there were able to contact that internet service provider and determine exactly who that IP address was assigned to. Which one of their customers that address was assigned to at that particular time and date that that file was downloaded,” said Sgt. Dave Goodman with the Minot Police Department.

The evidence for the case is being processed at the North Dakota BCI lab in Bismarck. They will analyze the evidence and then determine what and how much illegal material was found.
