North Hill Shopping Center Breaks Ground | Video

Jenny Castro | 7/11/2012

The new shopping center on North Hill officially broke ground on Wednesday. The main feature of the center will be the Market Place Foods grocery store.

The grocery store and shopping center will be on the corner of 16th street and 21st street northwest. The store will be about the size of the Dakota Square location and many other shops will be open including a fitness center.

Owners say the idea for the project came up about one year ago, when residents from North Hill were cut off from all the grocery stores on the south side of Minot.

"We realized right then that something needed to be up here. So we put this project together, so the owner Keith Johanneson put it together. He`s been working very hard and diligently so today was the groundbreaking and it`s coming to fruition,” said Market Place Foods Area Director Ralph Towery.

Towery says that a project this size takes from 14 to 16 months to complete. The city will also be installing a stop light at the intersection of 16th street and 21st avenue northwest.
