Parking Bandits to be Towed | Video

Joel Porter | 7/10/2012

Police in Bismarck will be cracking down on people who park illegally near the Missouri River. This week, city commissioners voted in favor of an ordinance to tow any vehicles who park on the east bank of River Road.

The beach along Steamboat Park has become a popular destination this summer. However, with only around 90 parking spaces at the park, many people simply park illegally.

Up until now, the city had written parking tickets for the offenders.

"I hope people understand, we didn`t do this to take away fun. We did this because of the safety concerns about people coming from between vehicles in a narrow street at a 35 mile per hour zone. You might not see someone," Commissioner Josh Askvig said.

City leaders are encouraging beach goers to park either at Sertoma Park or in the larger lot at Keelboat Park and walk along the trail to the beach.
