Getting Ready for the Fair | Video

Amy Fox | 7/9/2012

Officials were forced to cancel the North Dakota State Fair last year due to Minot`s devastating flood. Now, fair officials are gearing up for opening day next week.

Last year`s flood left behind damages to the electrical system, buildings and landscaping. State fair employees, like general manager Renae Korslien, have been working around the clock to get the fairgrounds up and running again for the annual event.

"Nineteen buildings at the state fair were damaged last year from the flood,” she said. "Every one of those buildings are repaired now, and they`re ready for people to come to. There was sheetrock that was replaced and electrical replaced. And again, the grass and the cleaning was huge. But it is done and ready."

The fair starts July 20 and runs through July 28. This year, the fair will offer a shuttle service from the Dakota Square Mall to the fairgrounds. Also, fair officials say there are still primitive campsites available.
