The Division of Waste Management says some of those contaminants could be harmful to farmlands.
"This material could have an impact on farmland and things like that. The high levels of salt we see in drill cutting are probably one of the chief hazards of this material and chief concerns is if the salt waste gets out into the open environment it would damage soils," said Steve Tillotson with the division.
Waste Management says the project has to go through zoning and planning before the site can be approved.
