Dodge Waste Facility | Video

Alex Hagan | 6/27/2012

Dodge, ND could be getting a new oil waste facility within the next year. Waste Solutions is proposing a waste dump site about two miles south of the town. The sites are used for dropping off crude oil, salt and other materials from oil companies.

The Division of Waste Management says some of those contaminants could be harmful to farmlands.

"This material could have an impact on farmland and things like that. The high levels of salt we see in drill cutting are probably one of the chief hazards of this material and chief concerns is if the salt waste gets out into the open environment it would damage soils," said Steve Tillotson with the division.

Waste Management says the project has to go through zoning and planning before the site can be approved.
