Some Camping Restrictions Lifted for July 4 Holiday

| 6/25/2012

The North Dakota Game and Fish will be allowing campers to use some wildlife management areas (WMAs) along Lake Sakakawea on July 3-4 for the holiday. This spring the department banned overnight camping on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, except holidays, in the following WMAs: Audubon, Custer Mine, Deepwater Creek, deTrobriand, Douglas Creek and Wolf Creek in McLean County; and Beaver Creek and Hille in Mercer County.

In addition, camping is not allowed at all, including holidays, at the following WMAs: Antelope Creek, Big Oxbow, Lewis and Clark, Neu`s Point, Ochs Point, Overlook, Sullivan and Tobacco Garden in McKenzie County; Van Hook in Mountrail County; and Hofflund and Trenton in Williams County.

Camping restrictions at all WMAs are posted at entry points.

Lighting fireworks on state wildlife management areas is prohibited.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department reminds people who are celebrating in any recreational areas to keep it clean by packing out all trash.

Nancy Boldt, water safety coordinator, said litter is already accumulating along the shorelines of the Missouri River. "People are excited to be able to enjoy the river again after not being able to use it last year due to the flood, but it is really disappointing to see shorelines littered with bottles, cans and wrappers," Boldt said.

All garbage should be placed in the proper trash receptacle. If they aren`t available, or are full, Boldt said to take the trash and dispose of it at home.
