Stellar Motocross Rider Competes | Video

Michelle San Miguel | 6/24/2012

Right out of the gate Tanner Reidman is in the lead, a position he`s gotten used to. He`s been riding since he was just four-years-old.

"It`s just second nature to me so I mean I`ve done it for so long and it`s kind of just like riding your bicycle."

Reidman`s racing at the Bismarck Motocross Track, known by local riders as The Rock. It`s deemed by many as the hardest course in the state because of its deep ruts and hills.

"There was a part of the track where they started digging up and doing some changes and there was this rock that they needed to dig out and it just kept going and going," said Robin Stephens, Reidman`s mom and a scorekeeper at the races. "And that`s just kind of where it came from and we decided to call it `The Rock.`"

Races here draw quite the crowd. Spectators pop open their trailers and pick-ups and prepare for a weekend of tailgating. Some who watch do ride, but others, not so much.

"Don`t have a bike. Don`t want to buy a bike. Don`t want the equipment. Don`t want the hassle. And I want my bones. I don`t want broken bones and I`m an EMT. I`ve seen way too many crashes," said spectator Amy Schlichting

It`s not just the fans who get nervous watching riders cruise through laps, Tanner says local races are actually more nerve-wrecking than national ones.

Reidman said, "I used to be more nervous at the pro level, the big races and stuff but you know you`re expected to do so well here and it`s just like you don`t really know how it`s gonna go and at least at the pro-nationals it`s like you`re probably not gonna win but you`re gonna try and do your best."

If he was nervous this weekend, you couldn`t see it on the track. Tanner won all of his races this weekend.

Riders will be competing at the Bismarck Motocross Track on August 18 and 19.
