Minot Says Farewell to Ramstad | Video

Amy Fox | 6/22/2012

Memories of last year`s flood were in the back of everyone`s mind Friday, especially those who got together to say goodbye to Ramstad Middle School.

One year ago, Ramstad Middle School was completely under water. Today, neighbors, faculty, staff and alums gathered on the front lawn of the now vacant building to say their final farewells and to celebrate the history of the school.

Minot Mayor Curt Zimbleman, Senator John Hoeven and Congressman Rick Berg all delivered messages of hope and encouragement at the ceremony.

It was a bittersweet day for people like Jeannie Holter who has personal ties to the school. "My husband went to Ramstad and I was looking forward to my daughter going here this fall," she said. "It`s been very emotional for me here today. Just because of the fact not only we lost a school, but of course, our house."

A decommissioning ceremony was also held today at Lincoln Elementary School.

The future home of Ramstad Middle School will be on North Hill where ground work is already underway.
