Learning About Animals at the Fair | Video

It`s not every day you run across a mini-horse or a Vietnamese pig in North Dakota. And no, I’m not talking about the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck.

"We`ve got a Scottish highlander, we`ve got a yak, we`ve got a water buffalo," said Connie Boger who runs Animal Specialties. "We’ve got a lot of different things that people normally wouldn`t see on the farm."

It`s the animal education section of the Upper Missouri Valley Fair. If you think you`ve seen all a petting zoo can offer, you might want to re-consider.

"Our main focus is to provide an education. We bring the fun to the fair in an educational, interactive way. We would like the kids to learn something when they come to the fair and this is the perfect way for that to happen," said Boger.

You can read all about each animal at the exhibit, some were purchased and some were rescued. If looking at the animals isn`t enough for you, you can practice a more hands-on activity

"Feeding the goats is the favorite part for the kids, and milking the cow - you`d be really surprised how many adults have milking a cow on their bucket list," said Boger.

So if you come by the fair this weekend, make sure to stop in and meet the animals. Who knows, you may even get a kiss from Dolly the mini-horse
