It`s been almost a year since last summer’s flood in Minot, and the housing shortage continues to grow. It doesn`t matter if you`re looking to rent an apartment or purchase a home, property is in high demand. Many people are taking units without even seeing them first.

Before you sign the dotted line, you need to know the company`s policies and fees. This includes the price of background and credit checks, security deposit and sometimes a month`s worth of rent.

Unfortunately, people like Carla Baker had to learn the hard way.

"I suggest they take a good look at the management companies here in town and look into the company, make sure they are a reputable company,” she said. "Make sure you get everything signed and documented for their own safety. Don`t put down any fund unless you have something signed and given back to you to protect yourself."

Apartment application prices in Minot start at $25 and go up to $50 depending on the property management company.
