Candidates Vote in Primary Election | Video

| 6/12/2012

Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Heidi Heitkamp filled out her ballot this morning at Midway Lanes in Mandan. Heitkamp is the sole Democrat running for the spot.

In November, she`ll be running against either Rick Berg or Duane Sand. Berg voted in Fargo this morning.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Kent Conrad decided to retire instead of running for re-election to a fifth term.

Heitkamp was North Dakota Attorney General from 1993 to 2001. She also ran for Governor in 2000, a race won by John Hoeven.

Republican U.S. House Candidate Kevin Cramer placed his ballot in the box at Horizon Middle School in Bismarck around 9:00 this morning. He wants to be the Republican nominee to fight for Rick Berg`s spot in the U.S. House.

Cramer skipped the convention and went straight to the primary. Cramer is currently a member of the state`s Public Service Commission.

Brian Kalk, just like Cramer, voted at Horizon Middle School in north Bismarck.

Kalk is also a Public Service Commissioner. Kalk was the Republican nominee at the state convention held a few months ago in Bismarck.

Either he or Cramer will face Democrat Pam Gulleson in the November election.
