New Minot Airport Terminal Survey Complete | Video

Rich Wisniewski | 5/18/2012

On Thursday we told you that so far this year, the Minot International Airport is the second busiest airport in the state, surpassing Bismarck, and only behind Fargo. The parking situation has also improved, but there`s still a lot going on up north.

Airport leaders are in the final stages of the new terminal survey. That survey was meant to measure the means of a better option: build on to the current terminal, which is 20 years old, or build a brand new facility. As predicted, the survey concluded it would be a better fit to build new and the design plans have already started.

Airport Director Andy Solsvig says that they will continue to update the city council on the status of the project.

"Then when we get to a point where the design is completed then there will be a final approval, sometime in December or January of next year. Then when its finally approved we`ll go out to bid. Then 30-60 days later hopefully receive a bid and break ground shortly after."

The current airport will be getting ready to endure some summer projects including resurfacing the runway and a new security upgrade. Solsvig, says that the resurfacing project won`t affect any flights this summer.
