Heitkamp Holds Town Hall Meetings

| 4/12/2012

United States Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp kicked off a series of town hall meetings that will take place today by speaking to a packed room at the Bismarck Public Library this morning.

Heitkamp focused on what she says is wrong with the Berg/Ryan budget. Her main concerns are that nationally she says it will cut spending on farm programs by $180 billion; cuts $115 billion from higher education over the next decade and requires seniors to pay more for preventive services.

She said the budget would also require that North Dakota seniors receive a voucher to purchase private insurance or Medicare starting in 2023.

Republicans say that they can`t balance the budget without making reforms to medicare and that the budget proposal will guarantee that seniors who want to enroll in Medicare will always have that option.
