Drowning Victim Had an Active Warrant

The man who drowned in the Red River while trying to get away from Fargo police was wanted in Minnesota on burglary charges. Police say there was an active warrant in Clay County for the arrest of Steven Franek, 23, for burglarizing four garages a year ago.

Fargo police say Franek ran from an officer investigating a report of a suspicious person on Wednesday, jumped in the river on the North Dakota side and tried to cross to the Minnesota side. A dive team recovered his body.
