Four ND High School Students Receive $5K Scholarships

| 3/23/2012

Four North Dakota high school students were each awarded with a $5,000 scholarship through the Chevy Scholar Scholarship from the West Dakota Chevy Dealers and Heartland Chevy Dealers of North Dakota and western Minnesota. The winners were chosen by online voting from a field of 10 finalists. Over 275 students applied for the scholarship.

"Narrowing down the 275-plus applicants to ten finalists was incredibly challenging," said Kathy Gaddie, president of the West Dakota Chevy Dealers. "North Dakota and Minnesota are filled with incredibly bright and promising young people. The students we heard from were outstanding. All Chevy dealers involved are incredibly proud that we can help these great kids fulfill their potential through these scholarships. They are great representatives of their communities and Chevrolet."

With over 8,500 text and online votes counted, Brandon Swanson, a senior from Devils Lake; Austin Mack, a junior from Dickinson; DeeAnna Ziegler, a senior from Hazen and Cassandra Fick, a senior from Marion earned the votes needed to win.

Finalists were determined by their community involvement, academic achievements, extracurricular activities, volunteer work and personal essay.
