Knowing which greens to pick out in the grocery store can go a long way in promoting your health

St. Alexius dietician, Shelley Porter, tells us about phytochemicals and antioxidants.

Phytochemicals are chemicals produced by plants that may affect health but are not essential. Examples include funtional foods such as calcium enriched juice or milk, folate enriched bread, or foods enhanced with fish oils.

Antioxidants are also thought to be of health benefit through their action in the body to protect and repair cells from damage and keep the immune system strong.

Learn where to look in the fruit and vegetable aisle to get the most bang for your buck.
