It also has lessons for today.
Part of the exhibit includes etchings by Richard Grune, a German, gay man, who lived through the horror of concentration camps and went on to document his experience, until his death in 1983.
"We had the opportunity to, for the first time in history, bring an exhibition from the U.S. Holocaust Museum to the State of North Dakota. We`ve never had one here before," said Greg Gordon with UND Human Rights Studies
The exhibition also includes films, photographs and a lecture by a famous Nazi hunter. Organizers are hoping it all gives people a better understanding of what can happen in a society that is not tolerant of others.
"Whereas the Nazis enslaved people, today we have issues of human trafficking. Whereas the Nazis put people in concentration camps, today we deprive people of their rights," Gordon said.
It`s all designed to make sure the lessons of history are not forgotten today.
The exhibition kicks off tomorrow and runs through March 25 at UND`s Memorial Union. For the full list of events, including films and lectures go to Valley News Live and click the hot button.
