All that is left is smoke and useless debris after a major apartment fire in Minot Wednesday morning. The investigation into the cause the Chateau Apartment fire near the Arrowhead Shopping Center is underway.

Investigators said because of the size of the fire, the investigation could take weeks. The Chateau Apartment complex was one of many buildings swallowed up by the Souris River during the summer flood.

Firefighters said that because the building was being renovated, the 32 unit apartment complex didn`t have a lot of protection and the fire got out of control quickly. The west wing containing 32 more units was saved.
