Lots of Snow in Carson | Video

Retha Colclasure | 2/23/2012

We saw a lot of something that we haven`t seen in awhile today, and some areas more of it than others. Especially in Carson, where 14 inches of snow fell this morning, more than anywhere else in the state.

There were a few residents in Carson that were enjoying the snow, but most say they were hoping to get through the winter without any.

Carson snowplow driver, Danny Clark, had an early morning. "I got up around 4:00 and I was at the blade at 4:30."

He and several others have been working nonstop to clear the roads of this wet, heavy snow.

"I don`t mind the snow, actually," he said.

But others weren`t so happy about it.

"I was a little mad. I haven`t missed it this winter," said Darcy Hertz at Do It Best Lumber.

He drove in to Carson from New Leipzig, where only a few inches of snow had fallen by the time he got to work at the hardware store.

"Store`s been about like how it has been all week. Sold one shovel, that`s it," he said.

Others had to pull out their shovel for the first time this winter.

"It`s been so nice this year. We got this here, all the cars are buried in, can`t get out, can`t go nowhere this morning," said resident Ron Mullins.

If they had to go far out of town there was really only one way to get around, snowmobile. Even it if wasn`t all for fun.

"We`re calving right now. Enjoy it while it`s here, I guess," said rancher Pat Fuchs.

He says this snow was something he could have done without.

Ranchers might not like the snow but farmers were welcoming it, because it`s providing much-needed cover for winter wheat. Even though the bulk of the snow fell in Carson, other farmers who only saw a few inches fall will still see a benefit.
