SD Surpasses ND in Sunflower Production

There`s a new national leader in sunflower production. South Dakota has surpassed North Dakota and is now the nation`s top sunflower producer.

North Dakota had been at the top of this list since record-keeping began in 1977. Last year, flooding and wet weather wiped out acres and production fell to 766 million pounds. South Dakota farmers produced 777 million pounds last year.

The National Sunflower Association Executive Director says North Dakota will recover and reclaim the number one spot in production.
