Rumors Circulating In Missing School Teacher Case | Video

Jennifer Joas | 1/12/2012

Authorities have nothing new to announce about the disappearance of a Sidney, Montana school teacher, other than there`s now a reward for helping find her. But that hasn`t stopped people from spreading all sorts of rumors about the case.

"Yeah, I`ve heard all kinds of different stories, from being abducted to being ran over. I hear all kinds of stuff," said Corey Nay, Sidney resident.

"Somebody says, well the shoe was just a plant. And I don`t know," said Sidney resident Margaret Bradley

The small town of Sidney has never had one of its own disappear before. And that has residents talking, but all that talk is fueling the rumor mill. Many rumors about Arnold being found are showing up on social media sites like Facebook. But they are just that - rumors.

Sidney Police Chief Frank DiFonzo says if there is a break in the case, the public will be notified. "If we are able to come up with some concrete evidence and something that we feel is a matter that we can pursue, that will lead us to a conclusion in this case, we would obviously respond to any press inquiries because the public needs to know what`s going on also."

The only concrete evidence police have so far is a one of Arnold`s shoes, but the chief says the tip line has also been a vital resource.

"Yeah, I think a lot of it is good, valuable stuff. And it does help. You cannot have too much information. I guess the way I look at it, if we take everything and put it together, we might find a pattern of some sort."

The police department isn`t just following up on phone tips, they are also going door to door along Arnold`s normal running route to find more witnesses.

However, locals figure the rumors will likely continue.

Even if they find her, I still don`t think they`ll stop. Too many people," said Nay

"So I`d say, like Facebook or all the blogs, don`t believe everything you read because you know it`s not true," said Bradley.

The Arnold family is offering a reward for information that will help find her or lead to the arrest of anyone responsible for her disappearance.

If you have any information, call the tip line at 406-433-4027.
