First Crude Oil Unit Train Departs `Bakken Oil Express` Rail Hub

| 11/9/2011

The first train loaded with crude oil departed Bakken Oil Express on the BNSF Railway Monday, Nov. 7, and is destined for St. James, La. Located just west of Dickinson, the Bakken Oil Express Rail Hub can take away 100,000 barrels of oil per day and is the first multi-shipper crude by rail unit train facility in North Dakota.

Bakken Oil Express will receive oil by both truck and pipeline. The first train departing included 103 oil tank cars containing about 70,000 barrels of oil transported for Bakken Oil Express` anchor shipper, Eighty-Eight Oil.

Construction of the Bakken Oil Express began in 2010, and the November 2011 startup marks the completion of "Phase 1" of the development. Bakken Oil Express has plans to expand to over 250,000 barrels of oil per day, which would let the facility handle any and all volumes moving from the Bakken play to the BNSF southern line. With over 320 acres zoned, the facility can also accommodate multi-purpose input facilities for sand and other materials.
