Individual FEMA Flood Assistance Denied | Video

Nick Dreyer | 6/16/2011

The governor of North Dakota says he is dismayed with a decision by the federal government. As of right now, individual Minot residents who have suffered damage from flooding will not be getting federal help.

Gov. Jack Dalrymple received word late Thursday from the Federal Emergency Management Agency that the state`s application for Individual Flood Assistance has been denied.

Dalrymple has sent a letter and left messages with FEMA expressing his disappointment. FEMA says major flooding in North Dakota has not caused significant damage to warrant federal assistance to homeowners and businesses.

Currently, there are nearly 100 FEMA representatives documenting damage in the state. The governor has asked FEMA and the secretary of Homeland Security to reconsider.
