Committee members say the students from Kenmare did their research and could provide many reasons why lawmakers should support the bill. The students explained the benefits ladybugs provide, like helping farmers by eating pests.
"The good senator from Grand Forks said, `This was the most amazing hearing I`ve ever been through.` The good senator from Wyndmere said, `If you sat through this hearing and even had an inkling of a thought that you might want to vote against it, you would truly feel guilty.`"
The students say North Dakota is one of only eight states without an official insect. The bill passed the Senate unanimously. It`s just waiting on the governor`s signature.
