Heart Gallery Helps Foster Kids Find Forever Families

| Families are a lifelong connection, but many children don`t have families. They are the children in the foster care system. They`re there for a number of different reasons, but they all have one thing in common: They`d all love to have a family of their own. And, a collection of photographs is helping many of those children find the families they so desperately need. This is Zach. He`s 14 years old, loves Sudoku puzzles, playing football and rap music. But what Zach would really love is a family of his own. He is one of many North Dakota children currently in foster care. Now, Zach is featured in the North Dakota Heart Gallery. A collection of pictures highlighting children like Zach, who are waiting for an adoptive family. "These are children who have had losses. They are children in foster care, so obviously there have been things in their life that have drawn them into our system but they`re children nonetheless and they need a family, a forever family, somebody who is going to stick by them through the difficulties and the good times," said Adoption Services Administrator Juli Hoffman. Professional photographers donate their time and talents to photograph children for the Heart Gallery, but these are no ordinary pictures. Hoffman said, "These pictures are designed to capture the spirit of the child and put them in a photograph so families can really see that child`s personality." "They really bring out the sparkle, the essence of who that child is so much better than you can capture in words or in a traditional photograph," said Leanne Johnson, AASK director. "It`s a new way to recruit families for children." And it`s working. Of the children featured in this gallery, adoptions are pending for all but three, which proves pictures are worth more than a thousand words. They`re also helping kids like Zach find a forever family, and that`s worth more than anything. This is the second collection of photographs in the North Dakota Heart Gallery.
