Halo Sleep Sacks | Video

Ashley Urban | 7/23/2010

Almost nothing looks as peaceful as a sleeping baby...and this newborn who is only a day old is able to rest...not only comfortably...but also safely. Mercy Medical Center has started a new campaign called back to bed...to help bring awareness to safety issues such as Sudden Infant Death Syndrome...which claims the lives of nearly 7,000 infants each year. The focus of this campaign is a new product called the Halo sleep sack... this little guy is wrapped up in one.

"Studies have shown these help prevent SIDS deaths because you don`t have all of the covers," says Lorrie Antos.

Thanks to the Mercy Medical Center Auxillary and Mercy Medical Center Foundation...all babies born at the hospital for the next year will be wrapped in a halo sleep sack upon birth...and they will also be sent home with one.

"This is our first little guy trying it out and he seems to be pretty content," says Antos.

Blankets are almost unnecessary because of this new product...the only time the hospital will need to use a blanket is after a newborn is bathed.

"Our young mother here tried it out and she said she’s very excited about it," says Antos.

The sleep sacks are easy to use...just stick the baby`s arms through the provided sleeves..snap the velcro..and zip from the top down...the zipper rests near the infants feet rather than their neck. This newborn was a little fussy at first but once the sleep sack was completely on he was sound asleep.
