Every kid dreams of going to space and being an astronaut. It`s a dream that not many will ever achieve, but a group of first- through third-grade boys is learning exactly what it takes to make that dream a reality. They are attending Astronaut Camp.
Arin Edmundson always wanted to be an astronaut. "I dreamed about going to space as a kid," said Edmundson.
She`s never achieved that dream, but she`s come pretty close. She`s spending the week teaching these boys what it takes to be an astronaut.
On the first day of astronaut camp, they`re learning about different smells in space.
"The idea is when you`re up in space the smell of different things that go on in a space station. Need to know what`s going on, like if there`s an electrical fire. We`re training their noses to be astronauts," said Edmundson.
They`ll also get a chance to make astronaut suits and learn about the diet of an astronaut.
"We`ll make and try and dehydrate our own foods just like real astronauts do," said Edmundson.
And these kids think being a real astronaut would be pretty cool..
"Get to see different things," said 7-year-old Nathan Weiler.
Seven-year-old Hale Bradley said, "I really wanted to go to the moon when I was little."
Now that he`s older and wiser Hale still thinks a trip to space would be pretty fun.
"I don`t know. "Just think it would be cool," said Hale.
And after a week of astronaut camp, Hale will know better what it takes to make that dream come true..
Arin has planned this astronaut camp using materials straight from NASA, so it`s as close to the real thing as possible. |
