Choosing the Right Sunscreen | Video

| 4/23/2010

Spring is here and that means the winter layers are coming off and most are looking for any excuse to head outside. One thing people of all ages need to remember is sunscreen.

You might think there`s not a huge difference between bottles, but doctors say everyone can benefit from sunscreens with a higher SPF, or sun protective factor. It`s recommended to wear spf 15 on a daily basis, and at least spf 30 if you`ll be spending the whole day out side. No matter which you choose, it`s important to put it on thickly and remember to re-apply, even if there are clouds in the sky.

"Even on hazy days, you`ll still get the UV light through the haze," Dr. Brad Bossort. "The people I see who get burned the most are the people out there on the water. Hazy day, the breeze is blowing, they don`t realize they`re burning and they come in with blisters."

Doctors actually recommend people wear sunscreen year-round, because even when it`s cold out the sun can reflect off snow and still burn people in the winter.
