If you like to shop but don`t want to worry about getting run over trying to grab the last Tickle-Me-Elmo on the shelf at 4:00 a.m., there are some other places you can go to get your Black Friday shopping fix.
It is possible to get your holiday shopping done without the stress, all the while feeding the local economy.
The Holly Berry craft fair at the Bismarck Civic Center showcases 100 North Dakota vendors, and shoppers say it beats shopping malls and big box stores.
"Right now it`s not crowded," says Kathy Porter, a shopper from New Salem. "I hate shopping when it`s crowded. Everyone gets so wild and crazy."
Shoppers say there are plenty of items to choose from to fill the stockings and sit under the tree, and the best part is that they`re unique and made by hand.
"I love crafts and I love to get the ideas and hopefully when I`m looking for gifts it`s homemade or something in that line," says Porter.
If you`re really shopping under a budget, the thrift store may be a good approach. The Seeds of Hope Thrift store in Bismarck has prices even department store doorbuster sales can`t beat. And your purchase will help others in need, especially around the holidays.
"People should come in because our proceeds go to a good cause, the AARC and we have new sales every day and I`d say we have pretty good quality new and used items," says Alexander Sommer, of Seeds of Hope.
And if you`re looking for a truly relaxing shopping experience and a personal North Dakota gift for the person in your family who is truly hard to shop for, the museum store at the Heritage Center is filled with ideas.
"About a third of our vendors are from North Dakota. North Dakota artists, pottery, books, jewelry is from North Dakota. Ink pens, a lot of art things, notebooks. So we feature North Dakota in our gifts," says Rhonda Brown, of the Heritage Center Museum Store.
And they`ll even wrap and ship the gifts for you. So you can get your holiday shopping done, without feeling like you just ran a marathon.
The Holly Berry craft show continues tomorrow at the Bismarck Civic Center from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
And the Heritage Center museum store is open from ten to five on Saturday and Sunday.
